I excercised my right today

Today was the first day I exercised my right to open carry. My wife and I went shopping after church today and both of us carried our firearms on our hip. Neither of us has a CCW. I carried my CZ model 85 (pre-B version) and my wife carried her glock 17.

We went into about 4 stores, no one said anything. All and all there were absolutely no problems, gotta love Arizona!

Good for you!

I wish we had open carry here in Florida. Except for that and a 3-day wait on handguns from a dealer, the laws here are pretty good.

Arizona is great except for the fact that it's 180 degrees nine months out of the year. No water, no wildlife. Illegal mexican problem.
I'm counting the days till I get out. And I live in rural Arizona. Not in the armpit they call Phoenix and Tucson.

You really consider that "pretty good laws"? :36_1_25:

Re: I excercised my right today

I also cannot wait to get out of Arizona, I came here for work 2 years ago (VERY west side of phoenix) and I can't wait to leave. My plan is Ohio or another state over there in that area (not Illinois or Wisconsin due to their terrible gun laws).

I can't stand that there is no water here. No wildlife I can deal with, but w/o water there is no life. There is enough water for some desert dwelling plants, but not enough to farm if TSHTF.

It was fun and it was liberating to open carry. I plan to do it much more in the time to come. I consider myself a VERY lucky man that my wife was not only ok with it but participated.

You would never get away with that here in Madison, even though it has been ruled that it's ok. Too many whiny people would call the cops in a split second saying you are waving it around causing a panic, and you would be in a jail. F Wisconsin

Re: I excercised my right today

I actually just got back from Wisconsin (was there on business). I was in Chippewa Falls for a week.

I thought the state was pretty and I thought I could live there until I read about the gun laws. 10 day "cooling off" period on gun sales...no thanks, no open carry (even though it is "legal" it isn't since they'll nail you with disturbing the peace or inciting a panic or something), no CCW...I will not move to that state now

I really only like the Beer (Leinenkugels) and the cheese curds and you can get those without living in the state for the most part!

That 10 day rule might be in the county you were in. Down here in Madison, it's 48 hours on handguns, but I was told it is cash and carry on rifles/shotguns. I can vouch for handgun timeframe since I bought two at the end of last year.

Leinies beer is pretty darn good. What flavors did you try? I'm not sure what seasonal one they have out at the moment, but there's a few that are year round that I have been known to consume. :coolbeer:

And dont get me started on cheese curds. Those damm things always call my name when I am at some hole in the wall bar (drinking Leinies) and get the munchies. They go so well with beer when they are deep fried. Raw ones are pretty darn good too.

Re: I excercised my right today

I actually took a tour of the leinies brewery when I was in Wisconsin last week. I was told by a local that there was a 10 waiting period so I took his word for it, though even 48 hours is too much compared to Arizona. I can walk out of a gun store in about 30 minutes with a handgun in Arizona.

I have tried many leinies flavors, I really like the creamy dark but their red is pretty good too as is the original.

I've tried the berry weiss, the sunset wheat, and the summer shandy. I want to try the Fireside Nut when it comes back out in the winter though I may have a hard time finding it in Arizona. I have a local source that had a few variants, but I really need to find a place for the creamy dark...I can't find it local in AZ :-( Lienies is my favorite beer! and was before I even visited Wisconsin and I just got lucky that business took me to Chippewa Falls where the Brewery is so I just had to tour while I was there...

I brought 2 bags of curds back to AZ with me...when their gone I just might cry cause I think I'm hooked on them!

I havent tried the creamy dark flavor. I have tried berry weiss (not bad, kind of sweet though), sunset wheat (pretty good), summer shandy (too much like drinking sevenup with a little beer mixed in) honey weiss (lighter beer, honey flavor is very subtle) and their apple spice seasonal (didnt like at all - too much cinammon for my tastes).

For your curd fix, you may want to try this place:

http://www.wisconsincheeseman.com/wi...cheeseman.aspx

I havent ordered from them, but have heard alot of good feedback.

Preferably CCW.

Re: I excercised my right today

I wouldn't say that I'm insecure...I don't even understand what your question is trying to imply?

I open carried because it is my right to do so. I open carried because I have a responsibility to my fellow humans to do what is right and protect their rights if they won't do so themselves. I know I don't have to protect their rights, but if I can I will. I open carried because I believe that I alone have responsibility for my well being. My wife open carried today because she believes the same things.

I don't CCW because the laws are set so that it is illegal for me to do so without a permit, which I'm not sure I want to get anyways. I don't believe the government has the right to "permit" me to carry concealed. But I also realize that the penalties of concealed carry without a permit are something I don't want to deal with. therefore the only option for me is open carry and I will do so proudly and confidently knowing that is it my right to do so.

There is no registration required othere than the 4473 if you're purchasing from a dealer, we're a "shall issue" CCW state, we can carry a loaded gun in the vehicle without a permit of any kind, FTF transfers between individuals require no paperwork or registration of any kind, you can use deadly force if you feel your life or the life of someone else is threatened, you can open carry on your property or while hunting, and according to the Brady Bunch we have the 3rd or 4th worst gun laws in the country. I could go on, but I think you get my drift. So, yes, while I disagree with no open carry, and I don't like the 3 day wait on handguns (again, only if purchased from a dealer), we're very free on gun laws.

AMEN ON THAT.

I will never forget the day when I saw a women with 3 kids all under 7 (one in her arm) filling out her 4473 with her free hand. The NICS took 3 minutes (if that) she paid the balance with CC and had the staff carry her guns out (maybe 3 Glocks if memory serves me well)

After she left I went over to counter and asked the staff memeber the following: Did she just do the entire BG in less than 5 minutes??

Yes.

What about Make, Model, Serial Number,Refernces,Mental evaluation CLEO signoff etc???

The Staff member must have thought I was crazy cause then he looked me up and down and just then just said it straight.

WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU FROM??? THIS IS FLORIDA WE DONT DO THAT SH!T DOWN HERE

Man........I dam near that thought I was going to cry or pass out in sheer excitement.

If NYC is your yard stick there is no question......... Florida is Paradise.

Sorry, I misunderstood you. You are right. There is no open carry.
I'll admit the gun laws are MUCH stricter in Canada. Especially for handguns. Hunting rifles and shotguns are no problem as long as you get them registered.

I keep people, that can say "sorry" in high regard. :ok:
I still remember the times, when just about all pick-up trucks had a rifle in it, in the western parts of Canada, plus rural areas.
Those sightings are rare now; more prevalent in the less populated area's of the north.
I like Switzerland the best. Natives there all have military machine guns in their homes. No home invasions there and crimes are strictly, by bankster types [think selling Swiss Au].

Actually we did go to wal-mart. I wanted to check their ammo stock and I was going to buy 9mm or .38 special if they had any in stock. They didn't, but they guy at the gun counter didn't seem to mind me carrying. I know he saw it, I saw his eyes look straight at the gun but he didn't say anything. We also passed many other wal-mart associates and passed two managers and no one said anything to us.

We're on the west side of phoenix and I don't even know where the Chris Town Mall is. Doesn't sound like a place I'd fit in anyways :-P

Thanks. Same goes for the united states. You used to be able to carry in gun racks in your pickup. Now you will either get them stolen or the cops called on you.

I live only 10 miles from Chippewa Falls, so we may have crossed paths. I don't know about the 10 day cooling off period you mentioned. There's a 3 day wait on HG purchases. I'm not sure about long guns. I think I heard there was no wait on those. You're right about the CCW and OC laws though.

Re: I excercised my right today

I was told about the 10 day wait from the instructor of the class I was taking (he lives in Chippewa so I had no reason not to believe him). We were talking about guns and thats what he said it was. He was obviously misinformed but I took his word for it since I don't live there and it doesn't really apply to me. I won't spread that around anymore since it isn't true.

I still enjoy walking out of a gun store in 5 minutes (with a CCW or 30 minutes w/o) with the gun in hand.

Yes.

I should have specified that. The 3-day wait for handguns is if you don't have a CCW.

You also don't have to wait 3 days if you trade in a handgun at the time of purchase. Still haven't figured that one out. If you already own guns, you're obviously not buying one "in the heat of the moment" to kill someone, so what's the point of the wait? :confused_m:

Re: I excercised my right today

I prefer CCW

I noticed the other day i was checking out at a BassPro Shop store and a guy was on his way out and picking up the gun he had checked in at the entry evidently when he came in they checked his gun and held it for him and he picked it up on the way out holstered it and walked out......i was in the line adjacent to the area and as soon as he got out the door...everyone was eye rolling and talking about open carry being a kook.....i thought this was a intresting reaction at a major sporting goods store

I would say a guy who has a cop type hair cut and a cop like demeanor is more likely NOT to be questioned etc because the assumption is he is a off duty cop.

but many people dont understand that OC is legal and thus immediately panic and excercize their right to call 911 can cause a stir.

So i totally support the right to OC i personally would tend to CCW even if doing so was illegal just to avoid the pain in the arse ruckus

Next time you carry into walmart send your wife in ahead of time have her in the area ...and have her say something to the clerk after you leave and see what the reaction is........it might be enlightning

Just some thoughts

Big Country 04-27-2009 08:09 PM

Re: I excercised my right today

Thats not a bad idea TTazzman. My wife was open carrying with me yesterday though so it wouldn't have worked so well. Maybe next time I'll try that just to see what they have to say about it. I don't really care what they have to say about it though. If they ask me to leave I most certainly will...WITHOUT spending any of my money there.

Arizona isn't like most other states when it comes to OC though. I wouldn't say it is super common to see someone OCing, but I've seen it a few times in the 2 years I've been here. I never saw it once in Ohio and I lived there for 22 years.

I envision a time though that the person NOT carrying is seen as the oddball whack job. I doubt it will ever happen in my life time (and hopefully I have a lot of that left. I'm 24).

Wal-mart does have a store policy that no civilian with a weapon can enter the store so don't be surprised. Why would they escort you out the door after you purchase a weapon. Chris town mall I believe is on Indian school and 19 ave or close to there. Your right about being in the wrong part of town.

I won't argue with you about a store policy. No one approached us and asked us to leave, and it wasn't posted at the door that we couldn't carry. As far as I'm concerned in Arizona that means I can carry there until specifically asked to leave.

Maybe they have a store policy but they didn't enforce it that day in the store. If I'm asked to leave that is fine, I'll leave. It isn't breaking a law in Arizona and I'm VERY sure that as long as I leave if asked the Sheriff or the Local police would side with me if they wanted to escalate the situation.

If it is a corporate wide policy why don't they have it posted at the door?

I can only think of 3 states off the top of my head that are fit to be called American: Oregon, New Hampshire, and Montana.

Who am I missing? Any vetoes?

(At one point I wanted to petition Oregon's governor to deploy our national guard to liberate Washington. The plan was to form liberal concentration camps similar to Indian reservations. They could govern themselves, and would get free marijuana/pseudofed and lice shampoo aid as a charity tax right-off for donors, while Oregonians and rational WA residents would be protected from their stupid.

It would be like a zoo, where Americans would take their children to watch stupid tweaking commies starve while they tried to "positive think" their way in to being fed. Eventually they would all get eaten by wolves after they banned any weapon that could possibly enable them to defend themselves.

Oregon would have a Free Dentures program to enable the liberals to feed themselves after they had finished gangbanging each other's mouths with pliers at "wolf-defense toothfairy parties" in order to prevent the wolves from eating them.
They will organize these parties at the suggestion of a "Big Bad Wolf M.D. Dentist" from "grandma's house washington" and to everyone's surprise and disappointment, "Big Bad Wolf M.D." will disappear right before his turn to have his teeth pulled. Something about a "DNC National Convention.")
